chapter 7

In chapter seven, Humes introduces some kind of a solution to the major problem that we are facing now. He talked about tiny things that would get attached to the trash to track where it goes. I think that is a very good idea because some people would be interested in what they throw and where that trash would go. The inventors wanted people to volunteer to see where that trash goes and put it on the trash products. Many cities started recycling and Seattle was on the fifty percent of the recycling trash trackers city. Those trash trackers could cause more energy and electricity. When they know where it all goes they would know how and where to create that electricity from. If people think about why they should recycle they would know that they help others around the United States and give them more energy. Those trash trackers could open so many doors for a better future for the americans and what they could do just to make it more useful and helpful. They would know that recycling would actually become beneficial to their own lives and maybe one day help them survive and live better. Through it all, trash trackers could help many people and those many may be the ones that really need to recycle and that are curious about what their trash may go.

chapter 6

In this chapter Humes introduces many different things. He mainly talks about the Scripps research that wants to estimate the exact number of the debris in the pacific garbage patch. The ocean has so many trash in it. People now all they do is throw their trash in the ocean. When they go to the beach and there are stuff that they don't want anymore they just throw it in the ocean and cause more plastic in the ocean. Plastic is now the "Miracle Material" there should happen a miracle to decrease all this trash and help the people and make them not throw trash anymore. It is obvious that now the only reason behind all the trash are people. No one is able to say something other than that because that is the truth behind this and people are the only ones that would either decrease the trash or increase it. This plastic causes so much harm to us. It is in everything we use without even knowing. All those soups and face cleanser and materials that we use have plastic inside them. People should all keep the idea of how plastic has caused damage to many things and it may also to cause damage to themselves. However, when people figure that trash was the reason behind their sickness or death they would reduce how much trash they throw away and how they should stop the amount of trash thrown everyday.

19-Year-Old Develops Ocean Cleanup Array That Could Remove 7,250,000 Tons Of Plastic

What Boyan Slat has done is a very smart thing to do. Who would think about creating a project to save the ocean. His project was to put tiny things that would know which of the trash in the ocean should be recycled or filtered. His invention is very smart and could help a lot of animals. His idea could even increase tourism and that would increase the United States economy. Even though it may take a long time to be cleaned, it will eventually get cleaned and there will be more animals living. Animals won't die due to our plastic anymore. The idea that Slat invented is great to save many things and items. It could cause less damage to the environment and it would also increase the pollution and makes everything cleaner and better. It would make us have a btter surrounding and not be scared to swim in the ocean because of all the dirtiness that is there.

Scripps Study Shows Plastic in Pacific Garbage Patch Has Increased 100-Fold

I was very shocked when I read this article. Those tiny little animals could be dead due to our trash that we throw away without even caring about whats going to happen to others. If it was whats gnu happen to animals or to human. In the article, Leon Kaye, mentions how even when the eggs pop their might be plastics inside them. Those little new born animals could have plastic even before they pen their eyes to the world. It is not even safe for those animals to have babies because those babies may die. who would imagine that there is nine percent of fish has plastic in its stomach! This should end and very soon.

chapter 5

This chapter is fairly different than all the other chapters we have read before. It takes us to a different world with different species. This chapter is about the trash in our ocean. Trash that could kill animals and hurt them. It not only kills mammals but it could also kill people. Mary Crowley, is a teacher that wanted to be a sea captain and see what is in that sea. she became a see captain and went to look for what there is in the ocean. In her opinion, the ocean is now a "plastic chowder"(109). She talks about how lantern fish feed on the surface when its night time. And what is on that surface? on the surface of water are all plastic items. Then, larger fish feed on those lantern fish and then humans eat those larger fish. It is basically a cycle that if people don't want to eat plastic like that just because its plastic they'll most likely eat that plastic out of fish. Crowley wanted to do a project to extract all that plastic from the sea. Humes introduce throughout the chapter the nurdles, the melt down in the sea and eventually become plastic. Those nurdles are very small that no one can see them. Therefore, plastic is everywhere. people won't be able to get rid of it and run away from it. They will find it where ever they go and whatever they do because it is basically humans' trash and humen are everywhere. When Crowley continued her project she found 450 pound of plastic in a whale's digestive tract. In her opinion, if the ocean is not clean then we are not clean because this is a matter of survival. They put a net in the ocean and they looked at it they saw that there was no sea life it was all plastic and plastic. People should stop dumping their trash in the ocean and try to save the ocean and protect themselves.

Chapter 4

In my opinion this chapter was very informing. Edward Humes, the author of garbology, talks about puente hills. Puente hills is where all the trash goes when people throw it away. It either gets burned there or buried. Humes mentions David Steiner, who is the CEO of the world's largest trash company and what he says. Steiner says that trash a buried treasure. He thins that this trash would help us one day in the future and make us better. He refuses to change his mind because that's what trash is for getting money from it. His company, Waste management, was accused of a lot of things; for example, it was accused of illegal toxic dumping. However, when he took over the company he refashioned it and made it gain its name back. He decided to convert those landfill gas and make it useful and make money out of it. He chose to to convert it to electricity that helps people. His goal was to gain more profits from recycling. Humes also talks about how people marched because they did not want puente hills to become bigger. This chapter opens the eyes for what people should and should not throw away and help them understand that they should recycle more.

The joy of Garbage

The article was something different. People could actually relate because they know what they do with their trash. Trash comes from so many things. The most thing i liked about this articles was the video that they had. I liked how they helped us imagine what is going on in real life. It makes me worry about the next generations because they would keep throwing away stuff and they dont know how much it hurts them. What surprised was how much waste is produced in one day. Each person throws so many things that would fill a landfill during their lifetime. This article relates the book a lot and that helped me think more about the book and how trash can be reduced.
