Chapter 4

In my opinion this chapter was very informing. Edward Humes, the author of garbology, talks about puente hills. Puente hills is where all the trash goes when people throw it away. It either gets burned there or buried. Humes mentions David Steiner, who is the CEO of the world's largest trash company and what he says. Steiner says that trash a buried treasure. He thins that this trash would help us one day in the future and make us better. He refuses to change his mind because that's what trash is for getting money from it. His company, Waste management, was accused of a lot of things; for example, it was accused of illegal toxic dumping. However, when he took over the company he refashioned it and made it gain its name back. He decided to convert those landfill gas and make it useful and make money out of it. He chose to to convert it to electricity that helps people. His goal was to gain more profits from recycling. Humes also talks about how people marched because they did not want puente hills to become bigger. This chapter opens the eyes for what people should and should not throw away and help them understand that they should recycle more.
